The IAH 2013 Organising Committee would like to thank all participants for contributing to a fantastic Congress.
Dear colleagues and friends,
It is over a year ago that the 40th IAH International Congress website went live announcing the event and broadcasting the Congress Organising Committee’s invitation to come to Perth in September 2013. A lot of organisational work has gone on behind the scenes since then and we received an excellent response to the call for abstracts with nearly 700 abstract submissions. This means there will be to 425 oral presentations in six parallel sessions at close to capacity for the Perth Convention and Exhibition Center, as well as over 200 poster presenations. With just under 3 months to the opening of the Congress we are delighted to report very strong attendance numbers are already indicated by registrations to date. All this amounts to the prospect of a very broad scope and energetic Congress and we are currently hard at work developing the detailed congress programme to fit in all of keynotes, parallel sessions, poster presentations and all of the IAH meetings that are normally held during the congress week.
In addition to the technical program, there are six pre-Congress short courses on offer and one post-Congress symposium available with possibilities to learn and develop new skills from expert presenters in various groundwater fields. Mid congress tours offer six options to look at aspects of groundwater use and groundwater issues in Metropolitan Perth region. Five excellent post conference tours are on offer and will visit some of the unique groundwater technologies and field areas that are on offer in Australia. Participation in these will allow overseas delegates to make the most of their travel to Australia. These options and events are filling quickly so please register early for them to secure a place.
All in all the response to the IAH 2013 Congress has been excellent and I would like thank the global hydrogeological community for their wholehearted endorsement of the event.
This great response secures the Congress as being the “must-participate” groundwater event globally of 2013. You, as congress delegates have the vision, knowledge, and the experience to help us pave our way into the future. We are confident that we will make a significant contribution to our bold challenge of “Solving the Groundwater Challenges of the 21st Century”
I encourage your participation in making this the world-class event it is shaping up to be. I and the Organising Committee look forward to welcoming you to Perth in September.
